The Essener Artwalk 2012 is over - lets do it again

Re:Flux - the datahouse - every visitor could attache new floppy disks

The first Essen Artwalk took place from 7th - 9th September 2012. Various galleries, shops and theatres joined in establishing an extensive art precinct in the Essener district Nordstadt. My exhibition ‘meet ends need’ opened on Friday with a vernissage attended by a varied selection of invited guests. Art works and current topics were discussed at length over one or two glasses of champagne.

The Kleines Theater Essen is the ideal venue for an art exhibition. The stage is well suited to exhibit larger sculptures and installations. Furthermore, the cellar rooms are air conditioned – which helped tremendously when the temperatures were high during the Artwalk.

Re:Flux. Each day another sculpture was built – by the visitors. The beginnings of a floppy disk sculpture were set up on a table in the middle of the room which could then be presented by the visitors. Many visitors reacted with great enthusiasm and added one or more floppy disks. The 3 days went by very quickly. Looking back, I can remember shaking countless hands and the subsequent discussions. Business cards and also one or two pictures exchanged owners. I am already looking forward to the next Artwalk, which is now supposed to be held quarterly.
